My Story

My Story

I'm Ethan, I like to draw cool things, pick up heavy things, be in nature, and put foodstuffs in my face :)
Currently I am a student in high school. Always loved to draw, always loved the woods, but pertaining to the athleticism aforementioned in the heading of this blog, I must make it known that I really am not all that athletic. Particularly when it comes to games that involve spherical inflated pieces of rubber, which is probably why I seem to be more attracted to sports which focus mainly on the athlete's physical development and capability. My only "official" (?) athletic experience has been the five years of rowing which I proudly defined myself by until the end of last year when I moved on due to, well, fatigue I guess. Since that time I have turned my energy and focus towards weight training. Over time I've gradually become more knowledgeable about the world of weightlifting, and have come a long way from the 6 foot, 130 pound ectomorph from the end of my rowing years. That is not to say that rowing was the cause of my, erm, leanness,  which brings me to my next point.

As a rower, I became increasingly more interested in ways by which I could optimize my performance through lifestyle. I began watching what I ate and doing more exercises (of the wrong kind) to try to maximize my athleticism. Unfortunately, over the course of my last seasons as a rower, this turned mildly pathological, and today I believe that it may have played a major role in my falling out of love with the sport. Keep in mind that rowing is among the most energy demanding sports there is, and at my height and activity level, an average of ~2300 calories per day was certainly not working in my favor. Needless to say, my progress plateaued, my times stayed the same, I didn't get any stronger, and I became a tad obsessed with my diet and body. I read here and there nowadays about distorted body image and this time is the first thing that comes to mind. Something good came of this, however. That is, since that time, I have been fascinated by health and nutrition and how food can work for and against us in achieving goals in body composition, athletic performance, and overall health. Now I seem to expend a big part of my time and energy training and trying to find more efficient, effective, and tasty ways to make my food work for me. So, you could call me a food enthusiast, a health nerd, whatever, but through here I hope to share my knowledge and know-hows, and ideas about these things that I've come to build my lifestyle around.

If you find something helpful or interesting, fantastic! I hope you do, in fact. Feel free to pass it on, just do it nicely. No one, especially in America, likes to have someone critique their habits.

The topics and ideas I discuss here are solely my views and attempts to express myself. If you disagree with anything you find here, feel free to word your opinion in the comments. But at the same time, please try to pretend that your baby sister is seated right next to you and will repeat everything that you write until you submit to feeding her ungodly amounts of Oreo cookies so that she will shut up. Just be gentle with your words.
